Nova Fix Chicago: an independent repair shop

Who is Nova Fix?

Nova Fix is a walk-in electronics repair shop at 1927 W Chicago Ave, on the south side of the street between Wolcott and Damen. If you need phone repair in West Town, or at the Ukrainian Village end of Chicago Ave, this is the door. We fix phones, tablets, computers, Apple Watches and game consoles, and we ship repairs back to customers around the country.

The shop is run by Dmytro Nesterov, known to customers as Dimitri. We aren't a franchise, and we don't answer to a head office, so the person at the counter can give you a straight answer.

How long have you been here?

City of Chicago license records show an electronic equipment repair license for Nova Fix at 2219 W Chicago Ave in 2010. The business moved a few blocks east to 1927 W Chicago Ave in 2012, and it has been at this address ever since.

What does board-level repair mean here?

Swapping parts only goes so far. When a phone won't start after a new battery, or a console still shows no picture after a new cable, the fault is on the board. We do micro soldering in house, under a microscope, so we can look for the one part that failed instead of writing off the whole device.

That matters most for data recovery. On a modern phone your photos live on the main board, and the phone has to run before they can come off. Board work is how a dead phone gets one more start. It doesn't always work, and we will tell you the odds before you pay for the attempt.

What will we tell you that a sales desk won't?

• When a repair isn't worth the money, and a newer phone or a used console is the better buy.
• When Apple or AppleCare is the better choice. If your device is covered, go there first.
• What an independent repair changes, like the parts notice in iPhone Settings, Face ID limits and water resistance.
• When we can't fix something, or when a job needs a clean room data lab that we aren't.

What do we promise?

• You get the price before we start.
• We tell you when repair isn't worth it, or when Apple is the better choice.
• Parts carry a 90-day warranty, and water damage repairs carry 30 days. Labor may apply. Read the policy.

Who do we work with?

Many of our customers are neighbors from West Town, Ukrainian Village, Wicker Park and Humboldt Park who walk in with a cracked screen or a battery that won't last the day. Others mail in a PS5 or a MacBook from another state through mail-in repair. Other repair shops can refer board work to us as well.
