Most repairs replace a whole part. Board-level repair goes one layer deeper. A dead phone, a console with no picture or a laptop that won't start often comes down to one failed component the size of a grain of sand, on a board that's otherwise healthy. Micro soldering means finding that component and replacing it, at the bench on Chicago Ave in West Town, without sending your device away.
Board repair is priced per job. Most boards take 2 to 5 business days, because finding the fault takes longer than fixing it. Call (773) 741-6682 and you will hear the price before we start.
What board-level repair means
A shop that only swaps parts can replace your screen, battery and port. If the phone still won't start, that's usually the end of the road, because the board is all that's left. We keep going from there. We put the board under a microscope, measure the power lines, and look for the short or the open circuit that stopped it. Then we lift off the one failed part with hot air and solder a new one in place.
It can save a device you would otherwise replace, and it can keep your files in place. If your data is the goal, see data recovery.
Faults we fix on the board
- No power. It may be a short on a power line, a failed power chip or a damaged battery connector. This covers most iPhone no power repair jobs.
- Charging. A charging chip or a port connector that a new port didn't fix.
- No image. Backlight circuits, display connectors and display power lines.
- Audio. No sound, no microphone or a grayed-out speaker button.
- Boot loops. Phones stuck on the logo, where the cause is on the board, not in software.
- Torn connectors. A connector ripped off the board during an earlier repair.
- Liquid damage. Corroded parts and lines after a spill. See water damage repair.
- Console HDMI. Ports and video chips on PS5 and Xbox boards. See game console repair.
- MacBook boards. Power and charging faults. See MacBook repair.
We use the same skills on larger boards, including GPU connector repair.
What can't be fixed
Honest board work comes with limits, and you should hear them before paying.
Face ID. The sensors are paired to the board at the factory. We can repair a damaged connector or line, but we can't replace the paired sensor itself. If a drop killed the dot projector, Apple is the only route.
A failed main processor or storage chip. These hold your phone's identity and encryption keys. Replacing them doesn't bring the phone or the data back.
A badly bent or cracked board. Stacked iPhone boards have many inner layers. If those layers are torn, there's nothing left to reach.
Heavy corrosion that has spread. If corrosion has eaten through many lines, the job can cost more than the device is worth.
Is it worth repairing the board?
Ask two questions. What is the device worth to you as a working device, and what's on it? A dead iPhone with years of unbacked photos is worth a lot more than its resale price. A cheap tablet with nothing on it probably isn't worth board work at all. We tell you which way we'd go.
A logic board repair in Chicago is also the option that doesn't end with a new device. If a manufacturer's service center has told you the only fix is a new board or a replacement unit, it's worth a second look at the bench, particularly on a laptop or console out of warranty.
How we price it
Two devices with the same symptom can have very different faults, so board repair is priced per job. We look at the device first and tell you the price before we start. If we can't find the fault, or we don't think the repair is worth it, we will say so.
Tell us the full history when you bring it in: when it failed, what happened just before, whether it got wet, and who has opened it. It's the fastest way to the fault, and it's not a test. Previous repair attempts are common, and they change what we look for.
For other repair shops
Shops are welcome to send us board work, from a phone with no power to a console with a damaged HDMI chip. Call first to talk it through, then drop the device off or send it by mail-in. Tell us what's been tried and what the readings were. Each board is quoted on its own, and we agree terms before any work starts.
Sending a board by mail
Customers outside Chicago can send a whole device through mail-in repair. Parts carry our 90-day warranty, and labor may apply. Liquid damage repairs carry 30 days.

Needed my laptop keyboard replaced, but I couldn’t be without my laptop for a few days. I bought the replacement keyboard on Amazon and found him through Yelp. After watching a YouTube video, I quickly realized it was more complicated than I wanted to tackle myself! He replaced the keyboard within a couple of hours, and I picked it up the same day. Straightforward, fast, and clearly knows what he’s doing. Highly recommend!

Came in with a iPhone SE 2016 with 64% battery health. Was told at another store that they wouldn’t be able to help. At Nova Fix Alex fixed it for me in under an hour for $60! Super worth it, fast and efficient!! Thank you!

What do people ask us?
What is micro soldering?
It is repair work on the main circuit board itself, done under a microscope. We find the single failed chip, connector or trace and replace that one part, so you don't have to swap the whole board or device. That often saves a phone that seems dead, and it can keep your data in place.
Can you fix a phone that will not turn on?
Often, yes. No power can come from a battery, a charging chip or a short on the board. We test in that order. If a repair is possible we tell you the price before starting. If the board is too damaged, we tell you that too, and we can talk about data recovery.
How much does board repair cost?
Call us for a price. Board faults vary a lot, so we quote each device after we look at it. You hear the number before any work starts. If you only want your photos and files back, say so up front, since a data recovery job is a different goal.
Do you take repairs from other shops?
Yes. Call us first to talk through the device, the fault and what has been tried, so we can tell you whether we can help. Devices can be dropped off at Chicago Ave or sent in by mail. We quote each board on its own, and terms are agreed before any work starts.
Why does a board-level repair take days?
Most of the time goes into finding the fault, not fixing it. A modern phone board has thousands of tiny parts on stacked layers, and a short can hide anywhere. We measure lines one at a time, then remove and test. Plan on 2 to 5 business days, and longer if we need to order a chip.
Does a board repair carry a warranty?
Parts we fit carry our 90-day warranty, and labor may apply. A liquid damaged board carries 30 days, because corrosion can keep moving. We can only stand behind the fault we repaired, and a board that has already been through a hard drop or a spill may develop another one later. We will tell you when that risk is high.
