iPad Battery Replacement Cost: What You Pay and What You Get

iPad battery replacement cost at Nova Fix runs from $79.99 to $249.99 depending on the model. Apple can be the cheaper choice, especially on Air and Pro models, so compare first. The real question is whether the repair beats a used iPad, and whether you want this iPad back.

An iPad battery is an odd repair to price, because the job is much harder than the part. The battery sits behind the screen, glued down, and on most models the display has to come off first. That is why the cost of iPad battery replacement can be close to the price of a screen, and why it varies so much by model.

How much does an iPad battery replacement cost?

Here is our list next to Apple's battery service estimate. We read Apple's figures on its iPad repair page on November 5, 2026. Check that page for the exact number, since it changes and may add tax or shipping.

Model Nova Fix Apple's estimate against ours
iPad 9 $99.99 About the same
iPad 7 and 8 $99.99 About the same
iPad 6 $99.99 No battery estimate listed
iPad 5 $99.99 Not on Apple's estimator
iPad mini 4 and 5 $99.99 Around 20 percent higher on the mini 5
iPad Air 3 $139.99 Around 15 percent lower
iPad Air 4 and 5 $149.99 Around 20 percent lower
iPad Pro 11 (1st and 2nd gen) $149.99 Around 20 percent lower
iPad Pro 9.7 and 10.5 $129.99 A little lower on the 10.5
iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd and 4th gen) $199.99 Around 40 percent lower

Newer iPads, including the iPad 10, are quoted by phone. Call (773) 741-6682 and you will have an ipad replacement battery cost before any work starts. Every other price is on our full list.

Why does the price change so much between models?

Size is the first reason: a 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a much larger battery than a mini. Construction is the second. Bonded displays on Pro and recent Air models take more care to remove, and a crack on the way in becomes a very expensive mistake, so the labor and the risk both rise.

Does Apple replace the battery or the whole iPad?

This is worth asking before you book. Apple's page does not spell out whether you get the same iPad back, and its repair terms allow for replacement equipment that may contain new or previously used parts. If your own iPad matters, say for its engraving or its condition, ask Apple what will happen. Either way, back up first.

So on a Pro 12.9, Apple is plainly cheaper, and we would tell you to get its quote. We make more sense when your model is off Apple's list, when you want the repair done locally, or when you are already paying for a screen and want one visit.

How do you check if your iPad battery is really the problem?

Unlike iPhones, not every iPad shows a health reading. Apple says certain iPad models show Battery Health in Settings under Battery, and on those you can check Maximum Capacity directly. On others, go by behavior.

  • It drops from 40 percent to off.
  • It only stays on while plugged in.
  • It drains overnight with nothing running.
  • The screen is lifting at an edge. Stop charging and bring it in, because that can mean a swollen battery.

Before you pay, check Settings, Battery, for an app using an unusual share of power. If it will not charge at all, read our iPad not charging guide instead, because that is a different problem.

When is a new iPad the better buy?

Compare the quote with a used iPad of the same model, in working condition. On a base iPad, a battery can be a good deal. On an older Pro, the top of our list can approach the price of a newer used tablet.

Skip the repair if your model has stopped getting iPadOS updates, if your apps have started to refuse it, or if the screen also needs work. Our iPad screen cost guide shows those prices, and our iPad repair page covers how the work goes.

What do people ask us?

Is it worth replacing an iPad battery?

Often, yes, on an iPad that still gets iPadOS updates and does what you need. Check what a used iPad of the same model sells for first. If the battery costs more than half of that, or the screen also needs work, a newer used iPad may serve you better for not much more.

Will I lose my data when the battery is replaced?

A battery swap should not touch your data, but any repair carries some risk, so back up to iCloud or a computer first if the iPad turns on. If you use Apple's service, confirm how your data is handled, because you may need to erase the iPad or receive a different unit.

Is the battery covered by a warranty?

Yes. Parts carry our 90-day warranty, and labor may apply. If your iPad has an active AppleCare plan and the battery holds less than 80 percent of its capacity, check Apple's terms first, because that service may cost you nothing. Our warranty page has the full details.

How do I know which iPad model I have?

Open Settings, tap General, then About, and read the model name. If the iPad won't turn on, the model number starting with A is printed in small type on the back. Tell us that number when you call, and we will match it to the right price and part.

Can I replace an iPad battery myself?

We don't recommend it. iPad batteries sit under the screen and are held in with strong adhesive, so you have to lift a bonded display without cracking it, then pry a lithium cell without puncturing it. A slip can cost more than the repair, and a damaged cell is a fire risk.
