Blurry photos are the most misleading fault on an iPhone. Sometimes it's a smudge. Sometimes it's a crack you can barely see, and sometimes the stabilizer inside the camera has failed. Each one has a different fix and a different price, so iPhone camera repair at our Chicago Ave shop starts with a look under good light before we quote anything.

Most camera repairs are done the same day, starting at $49.99. Bring the phone in during open hours and we will test it in front of you.

Which camera problem do you have?

Start with the free check. Wipe the lens with a clean, soft cloth, take off the case and try again. Thick cases and fingerprints cause more soft photos than you would think. Restart the phone and test the camera in another app. If the Camera app shows black, close it and try the front camera too.

A cracked lens cover. The lens glass is the small sapphire or glass cover over the camera. If it's cracked but photos are mostly clean, the glass is usually all that needs replacing. You may see flare or a soft patch where the crack sits. iPhone camera lens replacement is the smaller repair, and it's worth doing soon, since a crack lets in dust and damp.

A failing camera module. The module is the camera itself. Replace it when photos stay blurry after you clean the glass, when the app shows black, or when one lens has stopped working. On iPhones with several cameras, try each zoom level. If 1x works and 3x doesn't, that one camera has probably failed.

Stabilizer damage. Many iPhones have optical image stabilization, which holds the lens on tiny moving parts. A hard drop or strong vibration can knock it loose. That shows up as iPhone camera rattling, buzzing, shaking in video, or focus that hunts back and forth. A slight click when you tilt the phone is normal on some models. A loud buzz in the Camera app isn't.

Dust inside. A dark spot that shows up in the same place on every photo may be dust inside the lens stack, or a spot behind the glass. If cleaning the outside doesn't move it, the module usually needs replacing.

Lens or module: why the price differs

Lens glass is a small part, so it's the lower price of the two. A camera module holds the sensor, the lens stack and the stabilizer, so it costs more. Pro phones with three cameras cost the most, and on some models the cameras come as a single unit, so one failed lens can still mean a larger part. The table on this page shows both options, and you can use the toggle to switch between rear camera and camera lens prices. As a guide, an iPhone 11 is $69.99 for lens glass and $119.99 for the rear camera.

If the back of the phone is cracked too, it often makes sense to handle both at once. See iPhone back glass repair.

Front camera and Face ID

The front camera sits in the same group of sensors as Face ID, so it needs more care. If your selfie camera has failed, call first. A dead front camera can be linked to Face ID, and Apple is the only place that can replace paired Face ID parts. We will tell you which applies to your phone before you pay for anything.

What changes after the repair

A new lens cover changes nothing. A new rear camera on iPhone 12 and later can trigger a notice, and it will show as Unknown under Settings, General, About, Parts and Service History. The camera still works. If your phone is under warranty or AppleCare, Apple is the better option for a camera module.

Phone mounts deserve a mention here. If your camera problems began after months on a motorcycle or a scooter, a repair will fix it, but the same mount will do the same thing again.

Needed my laptop keyboard replaced, but I couldn’t be without my laptop for a few days. I bought the replacement keyboard on Amazon and found him through Yelp. After watching a YouTube video, I quickly realized it was more complicated than I wanted to tackle myself! He replaced the keyboard within a couple of hours, and I picked it up the same day. Straightforward, fast, and clearly knows what he’s doing. Highly recommend!

What do people ask us?

How much does iPhone camera repair cost?

Camera repairs start at $49.99. Lens glass and the full rear camera are priced separately, and the toggle on the table on this page shows both by model. If your iPhone is not listed, call or send a quote request and we will give you the price first.

Can you replace just the cracked camera lens?

On most models, yes. If only the outer glass is cracked and the photos are clean behind it, replacing that glass is the smaller repair. A crack lets dust and moisture in over time, so it is worth doing soon. We check the module too, so you are not paying for the wrong fix.

Why does my iPhone camera rattle?

Many iPhone cameras use a stabilizer that moves the lens on purpose, and a faint movement when the phone is off can be normal. A loud buzz, shaking photos or a lens that will not focus points to a damaged module. Bring it in and we will test it for you.

Can a motorcycle damage my iPhone camera?

It can. Apple warns that strong vibration from high-powered motorcycle engines can damage the stabilizer and autofocus systems. Phones mounted on a handlebar are the usual victims. If your camera started shaking after a season on a bike mount, the module has likely taken damage. A vibration-dampening mount helps with the next one.

Will a new camera show a parts notice?

On iPhone 12 and later, yes, it can. A rear camera replaced outside Apple's process can show as Unknown in Parts and Service History. Lens glass doesn't, because it isn't an electronic part. The camera still takes photos normally, though a few features can behave differently. We will tell you what to expect for your model before you decide.
