An Xbox no signal message can mean something as small as a bad cable, or as involved as a failed chip on the board. Xbox HDMI port repair is the fix when the connector itself is damaged. If the port looks perfect, it may be the retimer chip beside it, and that's a different job. We tell you which before you pay.
We work at 1927 W Chicago Ave in West Town and by mail-in from anywhere in the US. Series X port replacement is $149.99. Most jobs take 1 to 2 business days once the console is on the bench. Both repairs are board-level work.
Four checks before you bring it in
- Change the cable. Use a different HDMI cable, ideally the one that came with the console. Plug it into the HDMI OUT port, not HDMI IN on older Xbox One models.
- Change the TV input. Try a different input on the TV, or a different TV altogether.
- Reset the display. On a Series X or an Xbox One with a disc drive, hold the power button for 10 seconds to shut down. Then hold power and eject together until you hear a second beep. The console starts in low resolution mode, and you can change the setting from there. A Series S has no eject button, so use the steps on Xbox Support.
- Look in the port. Shine a flashlight into it. Bent pins or a port that wiggles point to physical damage.
If the console powers on and you get no picture across different cables and TVs, the fault is probably inside.
The port or the retimer chip?
The HDMI port is the socket you plug into. It breaks when a cable is pulled at an angle or the console gets moved while plugged in, and it's held on by solder at the edge of the board. Bent pins, a tilted socket or a picture that depends on the cable angle all point to the port.
The retimer chip sits near the port on the board and cleans up the video signal on its way out. When it fails, the port can look perfect and you still get nothing. Sparkles, lines or a picture that drops out during a game can also come from this chip. A surge or an earlier bad repair can kill it. So can heat from a console that has been running hot in a closed cabinet.
Both are soldered to the board, and our micro soldering and board repair work covers both.
Series X, Series S and older models
Xbox Series X HDMI port replacement is the job we have a set price for, at $149.99.
Xbox Series S HDMI repair is a similar job on a smaller board, and it's quoted after we test the console. Series S consoles are cheaper to buy, so it's worth comparing the quote against a replacement before you decide.
Xbox One, One S and One X. We repair HDMI faults on those too. Call for a price, and check what a used console costs first. We won't talk you into repairing a console that doesn't justify it.
What the repair costs and what changes it
The Series X price covers a normal port replacement. Three things can change the quote: a damaged retimer chip, lifted pads from an earlier repair attempt, and liquid or a second fault elsewhere on the board. If we find any of those, we stop and tell you, and you decide. Parts carry our 90-day warranty, and labor may apply.
If your console also overheats or shuts off during games, tell us when you bring it in. See game console repair for those faults.
Will you lose your games?
A port repair doesn't touch the internal storage. Your games and saves should be there when it comes back, and Xbox saves also sync to the cloud when the console is online. Back up anything you can't replace.
Keep it from happening again
Give the cable some slack, and avoid heavy adapters hanging off the port. Unplug the HDMI before moving the console. Anything that puts sideways force on the connector is working it loose from the board.
Mail-in
To send your console in, start a mail-in request. Leave out the controllers, cables and discs. Own a PlayStation too? See PS5 HDMI port repair.

Needed my laptop keyboard replaced, but I couldn’t be without my laptop for a few days. I bought the replacement keyboard on Amazon and found him through Yelp. After watching a YouTube video, I quickly realized it was more complicated than I wanted to tackle myself! He replaced the keyboard within a couple of hours, and I picked it up the same day. Straightforward, fast, and clearly knows what he’s doing. Highly recommend!

Came in with a iPhone SE 2016 with 64% battery health. Was told at another store that they wouldn’t be able to help. At Nova Fix Alex fixed it for me in under an hour for $60! Super worth it, fast and efficient!! Thank you!

What do people ask us?
How much does Xbox HDMI port repair cost?
HDMI port replacement on the Xbox Series X is $149.99. For the Series S, Xbox One or a retimer chip fault, call us and we will quote your console. You will have the price before any work starts, whether you drop it off or mail it in.
How do I know if it is the port or the chip?
A bent or loose port is often visible when you look inside with a flashlight. A retimer chip fault usually shows a clean port and still no picture, or a signal that cuts out. We test both at the bench, so you are only charged for the fix your console needs.
Do you fix Xbox One and One X consoles?
Yes. The older consoles have the same kind of HDMI faults, and we repair them the same way. Prices can differ from the Series X, so call us for a quote on your model. Tell us the model name printed on the console so we can confirm it.
Can I mail in my Xbox?
Yes. Pack the console in a sturdy box with padding on every side, and leave the controllers, cables and discs at home. Start on our mail-in page and we will send your next steps. We confirm the price with you before we begin any work.
Should I send it to Microsoft instead?
If your Xbox is under Microsoft's one-year warranty and has no physical damage, start there, because a covered repair costs you nothing. A bent or broken port usually counts as damage, so it won't be covered. Microsoft may also send back a different console. For anything out of warranty, a port repair here is usually simpler.
