MacBook screen replacement cost depends on the exact model and year, so Nova Fix quotes by phone and Apple quotes after an inspection. A full display is the costly part. Some faults, such as Flexgate, are a cable problem instead, and our listed fix for that is $250.
Phone screens have a price per model. MacBooks mostly do not, and there is a reason. On most MacBooks the display is not a panel you swap on its own. It is a complete lid assembly: glass, panel, cables, hinges and antennas, built as one unit. So the first question is not what a screen costs. It is whether you need a whole assembly at all.
What kind of damage do you have?
A crack or black ink blot spreading across the panel. That is physical damage to the display. It needs a new display assembly, and it is the expensive repair.
Vertical or horizontal lines with no crack. Often the panel or its cable. A test with an external monitor separates the display from the rest of the Mac.
A picture that fades or dies at a certain lid angle. Think cable before panel. See Flexgate below.
A black screen with the keyboard lit. The Mac may be fine and the backlight or display connection may have failed. Connect an external monitor first. If you get a picture, your files are safe and the fault is in the lid.
Is it Flexgate?
On some MacBook Pro models, thin cables that connect the display wear out from the lid opening and closing thousands of times. The signs are distinctive: a row of bright patches along the bottom of the screen, like stage lights, or a screen that works with the lid partly open and goes dark past a certain angle. Over time the display fails completely.
If you see this, tell us before you pay for a full screen. A Flexgate repair fixes the cable and leaves the rest of the lid alone, and it is the main reason to get a proper look before you agree to a replacement.

What moves the price
Size is the obvious one: 16-inch displays cost more than 13-inch. Year matters more than people expect, because supply of older assemblies shifts and newer panels are costly. Then there is the display type: recent MacBook Pro screens use more advanced panels than the Air, which is why macbook pro screen repair cost sits at the top of the range. Damage to the hinge or a bent lid can add to the job too.
What Apple charges
Apple's Mac laptop repair page lists battery service estimates by model, but when we read it on November 5, 2026 it showed no figure for other damage on MacBooks. Apple says it inspects the Mac to set the final fee. So you can't compare numbers until you have Apple's estimate in hand, and it is worth getting one.
If the Mac is covered by AppleCare, accidental damage is a service fee, and that is usually the better deal, so check your coverage before you book anywhere.
The case for an independent shop is the cable fault, an older Mac, or a Mac you would rather not hand over for a long turnaround. Apple's parts history can also show a replaced part as unknown on recent Macs, which might affect trade-in value, so ask us what to expect on your model.
Is it worth repairing?
A large repair is harder to justify on a Mac that no longer gets macOS updates. Look at the whole machine too: a worn battery or a tired keyboard adds to the bill. Then compare your quote with what a used replacement of the same size would cost.
The cost usually makes sense on a recent Air or Pro with years of updates left. It rarely does on a Mac whose apps have already stopped updating, unless you only need the files, in which case an external monitor or data recovery may be all you need.
If the Mac still runs, connect that external monitor and back it up before you do anything else. For Windows machines, see our computer repair page. We offer mail-in repair if you can't get to Chicago Ave.
