iPhone Back Glass Repair Cost by Model

By Dimitri Nesterov. Updated November 5, 2026.

Glass back of a red iPhone on a dark surface

iPhone back glass repair cost at Nova Fix runs from $99.99 to $199.99 for listed models. On older Pro phones Apple's estimate can be about three times ours, while on the base iPhone 14 the gap is much smaller. On some phones, a cracked back is cosmetic until water can get in.

Here is a question most repair pages skip: does a cracked back even need fixing? Often not today. But first the price, because this is the repair where the gap between shops is biggest and the reason is genuinely interesting.

How much does iPhone back glass repair cost?

These are our listed prices beside Apple's out-of-warranty estimates, which we read on Apple's iPhone repair page on November 5, 2026. Apple's page shows exact figures for your model and they can change.

Why does Apple charge so much more on some models?

Look at that table again. The iPhone 14 is close to our price, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max is more than three times ours. That jump comes from how the phone is built.

On older iPhones, the back glass is bonded into the metal frame. Apple's route on those phones means a much larger repair, which is what the estimate reflects. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus moved to a design with a back panel that is made to come off, and the whole iPhone 15 line followed. The 14 Pro models kept the older design, which is why they sit so far from the base 14 in Apple's list.

So if you have a pre-15 Pro with no coverage, this is the strongest case for an independent repair anywhere on our list. On an iPhone 15 or later, the difference is smaller, and Apple's estimate is worth a look before you decide.

Does a cracked back need fixing right away?

It depends on the crack. A small hairline crack away from the camera, on a phone you keep in a case, can often wait. It is cosmetic for now.

Move faster if any of these apply:

  • Glass is flaking or lifting, because it will cut you.
  • The crack runs across the camera or into the corner.
  • Pieces are missing, so the inside of the phone is exposed.
  • You take your phone near water, or you use it outdoors in the rain.
  • Wireless charging has become unreliable.

Does cracked back glass affect water resistance?

Yes. Treat the phone as no longer water resistant. A crack opens a path past the seals that the rating depends on. Apple already says water resistance is not permanent and can fall with normal wear, and it does not cover liquid damage under warranty. A cracked back makes that a lot more likely. Our dropped phone guide covers what to do if it gets wet.

A replacement does not bring back a factory rating, and we will not promise one. It does close the phone up again, which is much better than leaving a hole in it.

Can you just use a case instead?

For a small crack, yes. A case holds the glass together, keeps your fingers away from the edges and adds grip. It is the right answer for plenty of people on an older phone.

A clear tape patch or back skin can also stop small shards while you decide. Just don't treat it as a seal. It keeps glass in and does not keep water out.

Before you book, check for a bent frame too. A hard enough drop to break the back can bend the corner, and that can change the job. We look at that first, and you can see how it works on our iPhone back glass repair page or our main iPhone repair page.

If you have AppleCare, use it. Apple's back glass fee with a plan was below our cheapest listed price when we checked.

What do people ask us?

How much does it cost to replace iPhone back glass?

At Nova Fix, listed prices run from $99.99 to $199.99, depending on the model. iPhone 15, 16, 17, 18 and Duo are quoted by phone. Call (773) 741-6682 with your model, and we will give you a price before any work starts. Apple's estimates are on its repair page.

Is back glass covered by AppleCare?

Yes, as accidental damage, for a low service fee that was lower than our cheapest back glass price when we checked. If you have an active plan, use it. Check your coverage in Settings under General, then AppleCare & Warranty, before you book anywhere, including with us.

Does a back glass repair affect wireless charging?

It should not, as long as the charging coil under the glass is undamaged and the repair is done carefully. We test wireless charging on phones that support it. If a hard drop already damaged the coil, you may find that out during the repair, and we will tell you what it means.

Will my data be safe during the repair?

A back glass repair does not involve your storage, so your photos and apps stay put. Back up first anyway, because any repair carries some risk. A phone with a badly bent frame or other damage can need more work, and we will tell you that before we start.

Is back glass covered by a warranty?

Yes. Parts carry our 90-day warranty, and labor may apply. New impact damage is not covered, because glass that gets dropped again can break again. A slim case is a sensible way to protect the repair, and the full terms are on our warranty page.

Which iPhones cost the most to fix?

On our list, the iPhone 13 Pro sits at the top at $199.99, with Pro Max models close behind. At Apple, the most expensive back glass repairs are the Pro models from before the iPhone 15, because the older design makes the job far bigger. The newest models are quoted by phone.
